Republican lawmakers in Kansas are trying to ram through an anti-trans bathroom ban by including it in a bill that previously only related to whether trans people could change their gender markers on their driver’s licenses.

As the Kansas Reflector reports, Republicans on the state’s House Judiciary Committee voted earlier this week to approve an amendment to House Bill 2426 introduced by Rep. Bob Lewis ®. In its original form, H.B. 2426 would have required Kansas driver’s licenses and birth certificates to indicate a person’s sex assigned at birth, regardless of their gender identity. That version of the bill was opposed by more than 200 people who showed up to a House Judiciary Committee meeting earlier this month, even though the bill only appeared on the committee’s agenda 24 hours before.

But prior to Monday night’s hearing, the committee gave no public notice that it would be taking action on the bill or that it would consider the bathroom ban, according to the Reflector.

God it’s not even trans bathrooms like they’re some shady thing. They obviously are fear mongering. I’ve had very conservative people with me go to “trans bathrooms” and didn’t even notice until I pointed out that they were genderless.

You just walk in, there are sinks, and then every urinal and stall is fully enclosed and lockable. In my book they are significantly safer and MORE private than the standard American bathroom.

God damn these people just can’t get over it can they? This “debate” has been going on for like, 10+ years no?

They need to have a dog whistle to keep the voters in line. The dog caught the car on abortion, so they had to pivot. Now the scary trans rapists coming for your perfect purity ring daughter are the new boogeyman.

GOP lawmakers solving the real reasons why nobody wants to live in Kansas. Bathrooms.

Maybe they should start by at least making Kansas City more associated with Kansas than Missouri.
