One of my favorite obstacles I’ve ever placed in front of my players was a cat asking who they were. They couldn’t progress until they answered due to the nature of the path they were traveling, but there was literally no way to get it wrong. The cat would accept any answer that wasn’t outright bullshit and would never hurt them for lying. The duelist steps up and gives his noble affiliation, the commoner fast talker steps up and gives a not-quite-a-lie. They both repeat this process expecting to fight or talk their way through a problem that just doesn’t exist, the others being too worried to do so until the npc they brought with them does the same. Eventually they all answer, with the secret heir to the throne not even giving away his title, then flounder until one of them just walks down the road. It was great watching them be so paranoid over a little cat.
Awakening is essentially a different version of Ascension, so you’ve got the basic Idea of how it plays, although i think it’s a bit more lethal and straight combat is more discouraged.
Playing a point buy system with character creation that is the same between NPCs and PCs really does let you have a better connection to the world. You can reasonably guess or study it logic out things about other people in the world.
My next changeling the lost character will be a more of a cuck version of Joker (P5), personally.
Why do you think everyone buys their shitty products? I’d bet most actual hobbyists haven’t played dnd in a decade or more, partly because of this crap.
you know why gamefreak games suck (to use an unrelated example)? People that will just accept whatever garbage is given to them without complaint instead of having standards. If I’m buying an adventure path i expect it to be complete. Hell that applies to dnd broadly as well, awful, incomplete, overpriced game that it is.
Bullshit man. Pathfinder 2e had incredibly tight math behind it’s design and very simple ways for dms to use it, dnd could easily do the same. Especially since dnd’s direction seems to be about giving as little mechanical choice to the players as possible.
Gotta ask which mage you playing. Ascension feels really good imo, the health being the same for basically all mortals means combat, when it has to happen, is fast and lethal, with whoever had the foresight and prep time coming out on top. Not to mention things are not meant to be fully balanced, things are meant to be as strong as they are not to be punching bags for players.
Not to be that guy, but the best advice really is to not play 5e. It’s a bad game, there was literally never any thought to balancing it despite being a combat focused game. Things that are meant for your character level will be unbelievably underpowered, things that are slightly too high will be a slog.
Currently torn between a summoner who’s eidolon is a devil butler that is very disapproving of basically their entire existence or a changeling gravewalker witch (or whatever the undead archetype was), both for the same carrion crown campaign so one will go unused.
Currently got an idea for a changeling punk singer that leans heavily into summer and pyretics, with a dash of primal. Very emotional and hot headed, with a partner (basically the literal exact opposite of them) they want to find. Unfortunately I’m the only one who runs changeling.
Really want to play a lunar exalted some day, a low class ‘king’ that other outcasts choose to follow. Very much unhappy the forces of chaos that threaten the world, the forces of order that demand control, and people in general. Sadly i don’t see us running exalted any time soon since everyone in my group that’s wants to run something is.
Dude i just got the exalted books (some of them anyway) and i so want to play a lunar hedge king. Looks like one of the best fantasy games I’ve ever read.
You don’t even need to be a moody pastel goth to play! Sure the bigger picture is a depressing death of dreams, but the bigger bigger picture is simply “this too shall pass,” which that isn’t depressing at all. Not to mention the smaller picture is about trying to keep dreams and hope alive, usually done by the most colorful cast of character in WoD.
Same, i got an idea for a heavily fire based fae i wanna try out, but I’m the one running the game
I’ve owned property in WoD, and been a vagrant that never goes hungry in GURPs. Truly the male fantasy.
No shit? Well next they’ll be telling us private healthcare maybe wasn’t the super best idea we’ve ever had and that good things are better than bad things! Truly preposterous!
I’d expect every shitty regime will have a scapegoat, but not weed. Weed isn’t universally country cultural or anything, every place would have their own trends to target.
It’s insane to me how far the anti-weed hysteria has spread. Like, i get America is a puritan country that used it to demonize black people and counter culture, there was a lot of effort there to use a spark that already existed, but why does any other country care?
Man that’s weird, like really fucking weird. I know it’s a Disney movie and the masses obsess over those for some reason, but was it really that big a deal?
