The point of “nuclear family” propaganda is to shame and isolate people who can’t reach that insane ideal, which is basically everyone who can’t afford to hire help. Do you rely on grandparents, on aunts and uncles, on neighbors, teachers, church members, friends? Congratulations, you failed the nuclear family test and you are a leech on your community, worthy only of scorn and degradation until you get your act together and get enough money to pay someone to raise your kids like a real American. People who fall for it are put into a needless and usually lifelong struggle as they attempt to do it all themselves rather than participating in and at times leaning on their community like humans have been doing since time immemorial. It takes a village now, just like it always has. The “nuclear family” is designed to undercut the networks poor people need to survive and escape poverty.
