When I do get it, I feel like playing dumb is the safer bet sometimes.

  • Serious question, why the [CW: Assumes Viewer is Trans] tag in the title? Like I get having some CW or TW but I’d assume that on a SM site specifically for trans/queer people (blahaj Lemmy), in the page “Trans memes”, is pretty much the place to put trans POV posts…

I thought this was the correct way to tag since the community rules in the sidebar specifically request CWs for Transfem/Transmasc POVs.

The idea is that you tag content that might make people feel excluded if they’re trans, but not the gender that the meme assumes. Or maybe conversely, content that triggers people because they get reminded of their transness and maybe don’t want to / cannot deal with that on a given day and thus might want to filter memes that concern their specific situation.

I left it because CW: Nonbinary was listed as well, thought it may provide some value in that direction. I understand that you think the tag is pointless, should I remove it?

I mean, if you want. I don’t think most trans people are going to feel offended, though.

    I don’t get it.

EDIT: OK, so … a cis person sees a trans person … and the trans person isn’t passing but have tried to indicate their gender by dressing hyperfem (or hypermasc) … and the cis person cruelly uses the correct pronouns in a way that is meant to be ironic, but then the trans person pretends it was sincere?

    Is that the right interpretation?

Yes it is. I realized the meme would be confusing because of the switching POVs only after posting it, too late. Happy it was accessible in some way though :]

Like the other commenter noted, in my experience, presenting hyper* is not necessary for this to happen.

    • I think that’s the right interpretation, although I don’t think it has to be hyperfem/hypermasc. Could be something as basic as having long hair.

No clue what CIS unconfirmed means tho.

        CIS unconfirmed

thanks, appreciate the sanity check on that - I really struggled to understand the meme, lol

Makes sense re not being hyperfem.

I had a conservative colleague who at a lunch table once accidentally misgendered me early in my transition. I was wearing a full dress (honestly overdressed), and he turned to me after and said “sorry, ‘’‘she’‘’” in this heavily ironic fake-polite tone.

I just smiled as if I appreciated his politeness 🙃

I get it though, I look back at those photos and cringe at the man in the dress I see 🤢

      Yes, not for real.

Apparently some people feel the “haha long hair, must be a grill” too much
