Is D&D in danger? D&D is in this weird place where it’s in the middle of a lot of things. It’s honestly pretty complex compared to actually rules light systems, but it’s still much less complex than Pathfinder. If folks want more crunch they go to Pathfinder.
D&D has two pillars. Combat and everything else. I know that WotC defines it differently but generally I think it’s easier to view like this. Everything I’m combat is extremely rigid. Everything outside is pretty flexible. Sure, exploration has more rigid rules than social interactions but I genuinely don’t believe many people use rigid exploration rules. I think a lot of players dislike combat for a big variety of reasons. There are extremely few class-specific special things some classes can do outside of combat. Do fighters get anything special? Not really. And a lot of spells can totally negate specific things other players might be able to contribute.
It would be really nice to have flexible combat but I don’t think there’s a good way to do it without fundamentally changing the game. Instead, I believe every class needs to have meaningful ways to contribute to each pillar of play that cannot be one-upped by spells.
Another thing, I believe every class should have the same amount of limited resources more like 4th edition but I don’t think there’s a way to fix that in 5th edition or the new version without fundamentally rewriting everything.
I think that it serves two purposes:
Also, as someone who didn’t understand this, most of the crazy stuff you get right away. I think because it sort of looks like Terraria I thought a lot of stuff is crazy high level items but it’s not.
This would help explain why there are so few spells compared to the infinite possibilities of magic. Many problems are solved. There are only so many ways to sort a list and many of them are either entirely unuseful or only good for specific situations. Turns out there’s only one way to make a fireball. Every other way doesn’t work as good.
My cat’s name is Olive. My wife and I adopted her the Christmas after we moved In together and got married 9 years ago. I woke up a little early this morning with insomnia to her walking around our bodies and cuddling between us. Most nights she will sleep on my wife’s pillow nestled around her.head. Before bed she will sit beside my wife and wait for her to roll over a specific way and spoon with her.
Olive gets along great with our dog Ruby. We have a back yard and will let her roam for a bit while she uses the bathroom. Ruby then comes to the door and waits to be let in. Olive will meow at the door when Ruby is back. Even more, Olive has moved from the window and trotted to the door when she saw Ruby coming back to the porch.
Ruby needs to hype herself up to eat. She will play with Olive to, we assume, engage her prey drive. Olive has a lot of trust for Ruby and lets her nibble on her and slow blinks as she does. I think Olive is aware on some level that Ruby does this before she eats.
Sometimes in the morning when she is in our lap on the couch she’ll “talk” to us. If we make specific noises like clearing our throat or coughing or meowing she will make little noises back. This can go on for a bit until she’s done.
Am I an adventurer or a fucking high schooler?
Paladins can be chaotic good.
That’s the one on the right.
There are deaf people in the real world with treatable deafness that opt not to because they don’t view their deafness as a disability. In addition, not all neurodivergent folks view their conditions as disabilities and wouldn’t change even if there was a “cure” for it.
So, I don’t see how disabilities in a fantasy setting would be different. It’s not even necessarily about trusting the cure, many times it’s about how folks view the condition and themselves.
It seems normal to call yourself something accidentally that you called yourself for years. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking it means something it doesn’t. It’s just an old habit. It doesn’t make you someone you’re not. ♥️
“Not a real woman” as if trans women are not also the victims of assault by horrible men…
Anachronistic like magic in medieval settings?
