… at their home 2847 Dudley Ave, Bronx.

It’s wild how they used to casually print people’s addresses in the newspaper. What a different time.

Also, such a positive article! The newspaper celebrates Christine’s transformation, even though it was published in 1952.

Kind of similar to the whole ‘racism is learned behavior’ thing, like small children are generally not racist unless the parents are really proactive about making them be racist.

At least in America, racism is so prevalent and core to our society that I’d never attribute racism in small children solely to bad parenting. Racism and misogyny are driven in part by exposure to… well, just about every part of American culture. Parents can try to course-correct, but (especially white) parents may not have the tools or language to adequately educate their children in the face of cultural indoctrination.

I really think decades of transphobic propaganda in media sullied people to the idea of transition. Like, I think people found it weird or even gross in the past, but it took the social efforts of bigots actually thinking through the consequences to the conservative gender ideology for it to become as hated as it is now. I think a lot of modern gender relations are more constructed for our current time than we know.
