My orange cat does that with me. He just gets all bitey all of a sudden. I think he’s watched me watch a few too many zombie movies.
The only solution is to put him on the floor, but he’s older now and more wily. So now he waits for me to get real comfortable and have another cat on my lap, or be in the bed under the covers. then he strikes, but it’s with that same determined, moderately confused look.
He’s 15 now and he’s bitten me almost every day of those fifteen years.

They will have a hard time responding, now that they only have one arm…
