Sorry, the proper experience of New Vegas in [current year] is just actually literally gatekept by your capacity to read, follow instructions, and install a suite of mods that fixes a good deal of bugs with the base game, and does a pretty good job of making it less clunky.
This guide is targetted at Windows users, but if you want help with doing it on Linux, there are ways, and I know them.
You can do essentially a modified way of following this with LIMO, a linux native near equivalent of MO2.

Its possible there are other FNV comms, I just am not aware of them.
