I was interested in burning wheel for how fans sell it. Tried Mouse Guard (BW diet?) and was highly disappointed as it was clearly not for me (I’m a Chronicles of Darkness player but also played DnD3.5, L5R, and CoC in the 2000s). My recommendation if you are looking for a versatile system is to find one that is already designed to be more malleable and accessible, and use that.
