  • Being the sole income for a family, and having moved past the $100k/yr mark, I will disagree with that conclusion. I do agree that there are diminishing returns, and that does grow the higher you go. But, having the ability to just say “fuck it” and pay for something rather than constantly struggling, shuffling bills around or having to figure out what to cut this month makes life better. Sure, it’s not going to magically fix all your problems. But it makes it a damned sight easier to work on those other problems, when you’re not constantly stressed about money.

  • It sounds like it’s faster, easier and cheaper to just dump asphalt and pay the fine.

Those who fail to restore the road to its previous state are only liable for a fine of up to £2,500. Boys Smith said: “This is clearly monstrously insufficient for the size of the firms involved and is not working.”

I’d bet on a proper fix costing a lot more than the £2,500 fine. More and more, it seems like the authors behind the EU’s GDPR had proper fine structures figured out. Make the fine some percentage of the company’s global annual revenue and suddenly they sit up and listen.

  • Blowhard blows hard to State run media. While I don’t doubt that there are people within Russia that want to see a further invasion of Europe, I strongly suspect that many of the major power players in Russia understand exactly how far fetched such an invasion would be. No matter how rosy of a picture his generals are likely painting for him, Putin can’t help but notice that Kyiv is not currently under Russian control. And the Russian military structure likely knows that they are really not ready to take on all of NATO at once. At the same time, it’s always possible that Putin will face internal pressures to escalate. So, NATO needs to be ready, which sadly means yet more wealth thrown away in keeping humanity hanging on a cross of iron.
