cats@lemmy.world•My perfect darling Honey Pie, at 6 weeks old and the beginning of what would be my biggest foster fail
25·12 days agoIt’s a bit tongue in cheek, but generally the idea of fostering is that it’s temporary. In my situation, my wife works for a local cat rescue and our family is one of many in the area that will temporarily foster cats who for one reason or another can’t be in the adoption lounge with the other cats. Usually during this time they are still actively looking for adopters, and the foster family are temporary. A foster who adopts a cat is great, but they may also be less willing to foster other cats after adopting one or more fosters, hence it’s a success that is also kind of a failure in that it diminishes the network of fosters, or can do.
Honey Pie came with her two litter mates because they were all way too young to be adopted initially (we now think they were as young as 5 weeks when they came to us), and because two of them had health issues. Honey has two hind legs that don’t work as you’d expect, and her brother Rocky has a life-shortening heart defect. Their Sister Penny has no health issues, but we ended up keeping all 3.
I think it’s because they were so little. They still act like our babies more than any of our other cats.
Here is all 3 of them when we first got them.

I would not recommend emulating me. This is…not all of my cats
It’s true and excessive butthole is just a fact of life living with Honey Pie and her leg situation. I wouldn’t trade it for anything though.

cats@lemmy.world•What is the charge? Stealing a pie? A succulent chocolate pie?
1·15 days agoSDRE is one of my all time bands and their song 8 is responsible for opening up my mind to a whole new style of music. The diary tour was amazing but a huge bonus was the opening their encore with 8. Instant tears.

cats@lemmy.world•My differently perfect baby goes anywhere she wants, and is beautiful wherever she goes
3·24 days agoThank you, I’ve just started really getting going in the last year. I’m still trying to define my ethos for what is worth the money and space for a record, vs my plex server, but I’ve enjoyed the experience of stumbling over a cool find in a record store every once in a while.

12·24 days agoI don’t mind at all but others may regret reading some of this!
She mostly does great. Pooping has improved massively.
When she was a kitten and still perfecting her technique she would have occasional problems, ranging from a little bit of litter stuck to her legs, all the way up to looking like she rolled around in diarrhea, which she basically did on more than one occasion.
I genuinely think we bonded a lot during that time, because I would have to hold her in my arms like a baby to clean her, and she would just gaze up at me calmly and lovingly while I tried to clear the shit from the back of her legs without putting her into water.
Now she only has occasional issues with poop if she’s sick and it’s very soft. She’s really amazing how she’s adapted.
We have two litter robots and (for now) a third conventional box but with higher sides.
The litter robots are actually best because the one issue she does have is that when she pees, it basically shoots straight out behind her. So she usually goes into the litter robot, turns around so she’s facing out, and pees onto the back of the interior. Sometimes she forgets, and some cleanup in aisle 5 is needed.

11·24 days agoOoh those laptop corners are so nice to rub your face on if you’re a cat. What a beautiful cat!

8·24 days agoWell spotted. I definitely have to do that, though I’m banking on doing less docked play once the Steam Machine is out.

cats@lemmy.world•Artie the tripod makes his first foray out of doors
21·27 days agoOh no! That’s sounds traumatic all around, but it’s nice to see Lieutenant Dan looking so much better now. Great name too, haha.

cats@lemmy.world•Artie the tripod makes his first foray out of doors
26·27 days agoDarling! Looks like the same limb too. Artie had his removed right after birth after it was discovered that the umbilical cord had wrapped around the hip joint.
Thank you for giving Wheatley the greatest gift we can give to cats; the certainty that they are safe and loved.
That is really fucking ſexy.
One of my cats sits like this all the time because her back legs are differently perfect than other cats.

cats@lemmy.world•Does anyone have any advice on the care and feeding of a two-headed cat?
11·3 months agoYep, I believe his umbilical was wrapped around the joint when he was born and must have been for some time so his leg was removed right away. We’ve been fostering him for a few months and while he isn’t our only “mobility impaired” cat, he is our first tripod. I’ve been amazed at how capable he is. He can get pretty much anywhere any of the other cats do. He just always seems to figure it out. We have another whose back legs don’t work right and she’s the same. They just adapt so readily, it’s truly amazing.

2·3 months agoPenny is usually either sleeping or preparing for her next nap with a quick snack and a little light freakout.

6·8 months agoThey are litter mates, and actually seeing them like this really highlights how they share patches of each other’s coats. Honey (left) has a definite patch on her leg that is just like Rocky’s (right) overall coat, and Rocky has a patch on his face that is just like her coat.

I celebrate this failure with you. She is beautiful!
