Snuggles, Struggles, and Franny.

Although we’ve started calling Struggles by new names such as Yappy Jackie, Gob, and Screamer.

Yeah, me either. The people responding to you aren’t talking about just abandoning them, I totally get people who have to rehome a pet or the case of the cat going mental and escaping. Struggles was allowed to roam outside and the guy said he was worried she’d get hit by a car in the new place. He told us he had multiple attempts to make her an inside cat that failed, and in the two weeks leading up to the move she was in our yard every day (his yard backs up to ours). He came and got her one week before, and literally by the evening she was back outside. Then moving day came and went, she hung out with us all the time, and I get a message that she wouldn’t come to him so he left her. He said he’d try again a week later but he never checked in. I literally could have handed her to him, so there was absolutely no credibility to his attempts.

The reason she hung out with us is so clear now. She is incredibly needy and loving, she loves human warmth, laps, and cuddles. She had a UTI and fleas that needed attention. She loves wet food and playing with the red dot. My neighbor left her outside in storms (she waIted by his back door for hours), said she hated wet food (aka he never tried) and once described her loving side as “she sat on the couch with me for the evening!” - he had no clue about the cat she actually is, so he adopted some cute kittens and moved away and left her.

Yeah, I have little patience for people who abandon good cats.

Fran will go undercover if she feels truly at ease, which happens rarely because Snuggles is an ever present danger. When he is about, the others sleep with one eye open, but when he’s off sleeping in a new novel location, Fran, Melon, and Struggles will toy with burrowing and cuddling. It’s a treacherous time for all of them.

I need to get off this list, we’re at max capacity!

I’ll post a bunch tonight when she’s back indoors. We’re going to try to gradually transition her to being indoors.

I text him a photo of her being warm inside and he basically just replied “I have that same sweater” and nothing else. I can’t imagine being that careless.

My dilemma was that it was still technically someone’s pet, even if I didn’t agree with how they cared for her. She really does love being outside, so until it got cold it was hard to say she was being treated badly, he had been putting food out and left the window cracked for her to come back. He only moved last week, so things have kinda escalated since then.

The update is that he responded this morning saying she was ours! I’ll be making the vet appointment today to get her all fixed up. It’s going to be hard to transition her to indoor life as she was feral and then had two prior owners who let her roam, but we’ll try and get her there over time.

Actually I found out yesterday she nurses. She climbed into my arms and started sucking on my shirt.

I think (without any research, just from vague memory) the ear clipping isn’t actually all that painful to the cat, and the benefits of an immediate visual identifier outweigh it. I wouldn’t even know where to look for a cat tat.

We need a word that we can tag onto our posts that basically means “yes outdoor cats harm the environment and is bad for the cat, yes you should spay and neuter, yes I will register the stray with the county, check for a chip, and monitor lost posters to make sure the cat is not pre-owned before I adopt it, yes a cat is for life and I made this decision with sound mind, yes I know X food is not good for the cat, yes I know to get vaccines and regular cat care, etc etc etc”. Or, perhaps people can just assume good will from other humans and not throw unsolicited advice their way every time they post a simple photo of a cat.

It’s actually a breakaway bowtie (for cats). What’s the point in money if you can’t spend it on the neighborhood strays 🤣

Yeah I’m secretly hoping for a fun new game to emerge from this. Idk what the rules are yet, but I’m excited to find out.

We think she belongs to the house behind us, so I’m gonna put a collar on her with a note tomorrow and see if we get confirmation.

And the non kitten fellows! We wanted a third cat after adopting two kittens years ago. We were so over the erratic nature combined with the roll the dice luck of whether they were floor pissers, plant eaters, etc, so we decided to look for adult cats. The only one the shelter had was this mongy manky stray who was estimated to be 5 years old. When we went in the adoption room with her, she looked at us and did a massive wet shit that made us all evacuate the room. Her adoption photos make her look mangy, aloof, old, dirty, and distant, not to mention smelly.

Later, when the poo particles had settled, we went back in and picked her up. She sank into my arms and I just knew… I cried and couldn’t bear to let her go.

Four years on, her shaggy fur has became soft, her distant eyes started slow blinking and showing emotion, her little frame filled out and she became an absolute hellhound for dinner time. When you walk in the door, no matter who you are (literally, you could be a burglar), she will run up to you and do this silent meow asking to be picked up. When you hold her, she purrs so much her body shakes and she drools until her face is dripping. She will climb into bed and play little spoon at night, and she loves laps all times of the day.

We’ve had her 4 years and she no longer does wet shits, but is the same loving cat that melted when someone held her and showed her love. She converted me to older cats.
