The game is Dark Heresy from Warhammer 40k.

Ok looked it up: Hitting 100 isn’t necessarily instant death, I think, but if they don’t start to quell to reduce the number, there’s a couple effects that can happen: they explode, attract a mass daemon possession event upon your army, or a variable sized circle of warp storm around it

For those of us not in the know, does it burn itself out?

We are talking about 40k here, so dying will probably be the nice outcome you hope for…

Basically yes. It’s pretty much a death sentence. The psyker could be saved if they get medical attention quickly enough, but it’s pretty likely they gon’ die.

Not only is he yeeted screaming into the warp, but (depending on the edition) there’s a good chance a daemon appears and kills what’s left of the party

In Dark Heresy 2e a 100 o Perils of the Warp table is instant death and you then roll to see if a DAEMON OF CHAOS shows up in the place you were standing on.

I once gave 40k, the tabletop a try. Their smaller skirmish version, killteam, I think. I had like 5 guys and turn one, one of them exploded himself, damaging the rest.

It’s possible I misunderstood the rules, but the way we played was a better story. I lost, of course.
