I WISH; Greek people suck with that. Last year some funds for trap and release were allocated to some of the sanctuaries around the island but this year none were given. There’s a group on Facebook…Corfu cats and I literally just can’t go on it anymore because it’s just depressing because you want to help all the cats and then you can’t and then even sanctuaries are saying no we can’t take them because everywhere is full. There needs to be harsher laws towards spay and neutering as well as dumping—- there’s so much old village mentality towards the cats… people will have the one cat that they have so it hunts pest and then not have them sterilise they get pregnant and then they’ll just throw the litter in the garbage like what happened with the three up there. it’s absolutely disgusting. I have heard of tourist come to the island complaining and like writing letters for the municipality but they don’t give a fuck. :(

Thank you! I looked for some grants from my understanding the Greek government distribute funds to each island or area and the local municipality is supposed to disperse it but in Corfu they’re not doing anything. I have a friend that’s been doing fostering and rehoming along with tnr and she gets rescuer rates for spay and neuters which have delegated to me now as well after helping her with bottle feeders she’s found ( a lot that I’ve kept as my own pets) and a few she’s found homes for. The rates are 35€ for nurturing and 60€ for spays. The vets really are lovely here in comparison to Toronto, I feel like it’s financial extortion in Canada to get care for your pet.
